Observations
William Shi How can I capture the relationship between the observer and the observed? What is being observed? Who is being observed? How can we observe? My sustained investigation is set to try to answer these questions while being influenced by my interests in the functioning of society. The idea that to one person, everything else is just an observation and that creates a separation between the observer, the observed, and others. I began exploring these ideas by depicting figures in specific environments. Over time I discovered alternative ways to also incorporate organic abstract forms into these environments which developed a visual mood of separation. Personal observations are created in fragmented images as seen in piece 10 and 8. Some imagery is recognizable while other sections become distorted. Many environments I created began to feel alive as the imagery became increasingly more abstract. |
