Escapism
Michelle Kim Living through life is a task easier said than done. It’s only human nature to want to take a break from that crap. Whether it be a universe of characters, powers, plot, aesthetic, and abstraction that cannot be captured in real life. My work explores the concept of escapism. I depict these scenes by showcasing different abstract worlds from various angles. In certain pieces I wanted to show the stark contrast between reality and fiction. I emphasize the disconnect and delusion that escapism in excess causes with a chaotic, abstract, and surrealist style. However, in others I wanted to depict a more lighthearted feel to them— immersing the viewer into the world and emphasizing the feeling of escaping through exaggerated color and under articulated imagery. |
